Dennis Klein Obituary, MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Dennis Klein, a Marquette University alumnus, friend and major benefactor, has died, prompting an outpouring of remembrance from the university community. Marquette University confirmed that Klein died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026.
Klein earned his degree from Marquette University’s College of Business Administration in 1973 and later became a member of the university’s Founders Society. Over the years, his connection to Marquette extended well beyond his time as a student, with his support contributing to several areas of the university.
Klein and his wife, Barbara, who earned her Business Administration degree from Marquette in 1972, made significant contributions across campus. Their philanthropy supported Marquette Athletics, the College of Health Sciences and the College of Business Administration.
Among their contributions was a major gift in 2007 to help elevate Marquette’s soccer programs. The couple also provided longstanding support for the Men’s Basketball Excellence Fund and athletic scholarships through the Blue & Gold Fund. Their support of the College of Business Administration also helped strengthen programs focused on preparing future business leaders.
Klein and Barbara also established the Barbara and Dennis Klein BioImaging Core Facility in the College of Health Sciences. The facility provides researchers with advanced tools to study the organization and function of the nervous system, with research efforts aimed at advancing understanding and potential treatments for debilitating neurological conditions.
Marquette President Kimo Ah Yun remembered the impact of Dennis and Barbara Klein, noting that their contributions affected generations of students through scholarships and strengthened university programs. Marquette Athletics Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Broeker also expressed gratitude for Klein’s generosity and friendship, particularly his support for student-athletes and university athletics.
College of Health Sciences Dean William E. Cullinan described Klein as both a close friend of the college and a personal friend, while highlighting the couple’s early investment in neuroscience research at Marquette. The university said Klein’s generosity, vision and commitment helped shape programs and opportunities that will continue to benefit members of the Marquette community.
Dennis Klein is remembered by Marquette University for his longstanding friendship, generosity and commitment to the institution.
