Rodney Goodrum Obituary, NEWRY, Maine — Rodney Goodrum, 57, of Upton, died after the motorcycle he was riding struck a deer on Bear River Road, part of Route 26 in Newry, according to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened at approximately 5:50 p.m. Sunday, according to Oxford County Sheriff Christopher Wainwright. Investigators said Goodrum was traveling northbound on a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a deer entered the roadway.
The motorcycle struck the deer, causing Goodrum to be thrown from the motorcycle. He suffered serious injuries in the collision and was transported by air to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Goodrum later died from injuries sustained in the motorcycle crash, authorities said. He was identified by officials as a 57-year-old resident of Upton.
Bear River Road was closed for several hours following the crash while investigators examined the scene and gathered evidence. Authorities said no other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the collision.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office. Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the deer entering the roadway.
