Yotanca Calhoun Obituary, WACO, Texas — Yotanca Calhoun, 49, was killed in a fatal shooting Sunday night, Aug. 9, 2026, in Waco, Texas, according to the Waco Police Department. Authorities have arrested 43-year-old Michael Calhoun in connection with the homicide.
The shooting was reported at approximately 9:47 p.m. in the 2800 block of Summer Avenue. Waco police officers were dispatched to the area after receiving reports of a shooting and arrived to find Calhoun suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers immediately provided emergency medical assistance at the scene. Despite those efforts, Calhoun was pronounced dead at the location. Police later identified her as the victim and said her next of kin had been notified.
Investigators determined that the suspect, Michael Calhoun, was not at the scene when officers initially arrived. Police said investigators quickly developed information about his whereabouts and located him in the 2600 block of Alexander Avenue.
Michael Calhoun, 43, was subsequently taken into custody and arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Police said the victim and suspect knew each other, but authorities have not released additional information about their relationship.
