Melvin Waldron Obituary – Death, FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio — Melvin Waldron, 29, of Wellston, Ohio, has died from injuries sustained in a rollover crash on U.S. Route 33 in Fairfield County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday to reports of a serious crash near milepost 24 in Berne Township. The preliminary investigation found that Waldron was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 33 in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway.
The Chevrolet struck an embankment before overturning. Waldron was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover, and emergency crews transported him by Air Evac to Grant Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Despite receiving medical treatment, Waldron died from his injuries on Thursday. Authorities have not released additional information about his medical condition between the time of the crash and his death.
Investigators said witness statements indicated that Waldron and other vehicles, including a black Honda sedan, were reportedly driving recklessly through traffic immediately before the crash. The circumstances surrounding the reported driving behavior remain part of the ongoing investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the black Honda sedan to contact investigators. Officials are particularly seeking information that could help establish what happened in the moments immediately before the collision.
