Zaeem Tyus Obituary, NEW LONDON, Conn. — Zaeem Tyus, a 17-year-old New London resident, has died following a serious crash involving a moped and a truck Sunday evening, Aug. 9, 2026, on Ocean Avenue in New London, according to the New London Police Department.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:08 p.m. near the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Beech Drive. Police officers responded to the area after receiving reports of a motor vehicle crash involving injuries. Both vehicles involved in the collision remained at the scene when emergency responders arrived.
Officers found Tyus, who was operating the moped, suffering from serious injuries. Police immediately began providing medical assistance before he was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Tyus later died at the hospital. Police confirmed that he was a 17-year-old resident of New London and that his next of kin had been notified.
The driver of the truck involved in the crash was identified by police as John Satti, 70, of New London. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances that led to the collision or indicated whether any contributing factors have been identified.
Members of the New London Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and are conducting a detailed investigation into the crash. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as investigators continue their work.
