Bruce Gilbert Obituary, PULASKI, N.Y. — Bruce Gilbert has died following a battle with cancer, leaving his family, friends and the Pulaski community mourning the loss of a man remembered for his warmth, generosity and ability to make people feel welcome wherever he went.
News of Gilbert’s passing brought an outpouring of grief from people who knew him through his work, friendships and everyday life in the community. Those who knew him described him as a larger-than-life presence who seemed to know everyone and was widely loved in return.
One of the memories shared after his death recalled Gilbert’s visits to the diner, where it could take him 10 to 15 minutes to reach his seat because he would stop along the way to talk with nearly everyone he encountered. His smile, hugs and consistently positive attitude became some of the qualities people remembered most about him.
Gilbert was also remembered for his sense of humor and the encouragement he offered to others. One longtime acquaintance recalled that when she was busy and concentrating, Gilbert would tell her, “Smile you’re too serious!” The simple remark reflected the upbeat personality that friends and community members say he carried with him.
