Chad Hickman Obituary, MISSAUKEE COUNTY, Mich. — Chad Hickman, 39, has died after a deadly shooting in Missaukee County that left six people dead, including the suspected shooter, and another person critically injured, according to Michigan State Police.
Authorities identified Hickman as the suspected shooter in the incident, which occurred near LaChance and Kelly roads in Missaukee County. Police had considered him armed and dangerous while they searched for him following the shooting.
According to information provided to authorities, Hickman allegedly shot and killed Amanda Everitt and four other people, including his sister, before his own death. Authorities have not released complete details about the circumstances surrounding each death or the relationships between Hickman and all of the victims.
The initial emergency response began after reports that four people had been shot at or near a residence in the area of 2580 S. LaChance Road. A 13-year-old victim reportedly called 911 after being shot, leading emergency responders and law enforcement officers to the scene.
When authorities arrived, three victims were reportedly found dead and another person was critically injured. As the investigation continued, Michigan State Police confirmed that the death toll had risen to six, with Hickman among those who died.
Following the shooting, Michigan State Police launched a search for Hickman and warned residents not to approach him. Authorities said he was believed to be from the Lake City/Jennings area and might have been driving a white pickup truck with a discolored tailgate. Shortly after 3 p.m. Friday, Michigan State Police announced that detectives had received information indicating Hickman had been located deceased. Authorities later confirmed that he was among the six people who died in connection with the shooting. The surviving victim remains in critical condition.
